Newspaper, “Independent Ledger, and the American Advertiser”, 4p. folio, January 26, 1784, with excellent masthead, this Boston paper records domestic and nation events, includes the resignation of General George Washington; a resolution “That the United States in Congress assembled ought to be vested with the exclusive power of regulating trade and commerce throughout the United States of America”; and a segment relating “That obnoxious Jesuitical Printer, James Rivington, who has seldom appeared in the streets since the abdication of the city by his friends the British, was met yesterday by Mr. Cruger, a few paces from his own door, who disciplined him very handsomely for some of his meritorious actions in the reign of George the Third...”.
