The Monthly Review; or, Literary Journal, vol. 52, six monthly issues (January - June 1775). London: Ralph Griffiths, 1775. Octavo. 640pp plus index with original leather boards. Lots of text and reports on relations with the colonies in America to include: "The administration of the British colonies wherein a line of government between Great Britain and the rights of the colonies is drawn..."; also, Speech of Edmund Burke on American taxation. In a subsequent issue, Burke presents a resolution for the conciliation of the colonies; "A friendly address to all reasonable Americans on the subject of our political confusion"; The rights of the English Colonies established in America stated and defended; "American Controversy: Taxation no Tyranny." An answer to this "controversy" follows in another included issue; "A candid examination of the mutual claims of Great Britain and the colonies." Wonderful accounts from the "other side" of the revolution.
