AUGUSTINE PREVOST (1725-1786) British general who fought and was wounded during French Indian war and who invaded Georgia during the Revolution occupying and defending Savannah from a combined siege of Continental and French forces in 1779. A.L.S. 2pp. 4to., “Aug; Prevost” and counter signed "Crogan Forest" Aug. 11, 1771, to Sir William Johnson concerning the use of an indentured servant with a year left on their indenture. In part: "...The bearer James Seymour is very urgent with one to get his discharge, to which he is not intitled as yett for one year and which I can not with any Consistency grant without Mr [George] Croghan's approbation, but if you have no use for him (there being none here) I told him he might engage with Bartholemy for the next Spring, but should he be thought by you, to have deserved it he shall notwithstanding have his indenture immediately cancelled or otherwise I look upon it that his time & Labour must be the master profitt...".
