A great Southern slave receipt, 12 mo., for the hire of two slaves dated January 1, 1816, [n. p.], in which Lewis P. Duke and J. C. Green state, in part: "…we promise to pay Louis Y. Christmas sixty six dollars and seventy five cents for the hire of the negroes Peter & Arthur. We further bind ourselves to furnish said negroes with two suits of clothes, a blanket & hat…". VG
