Two issues of the Gentleman’s Magazine, February and May 1767, each 48 pp., disbound, VG. From the May issue, a four page report, “An Historical Account of the Patagonians, From Their Discovery by Magellan to the Present Time.” In small part, “These people are first mentioned in the account of a voyage ... under taken by Magellan in 1519.... By this account giants appear to have been found (South America). .. The head of one of Magellan’s middlle seized men reached but to his waiste. ... The Patagons are next mentioned in an account of the voyage of Sir Frances Drake ... A wild rude sort of creatures .. of a giganitc race .. about seven and half feet in stature ...” these reports continue noting the voyages which had contact with these giants. ... plus, in the February issue, there is a full page engraving of these giants, “A Sailor giving a Patagonian Woman some Biscuit for her Child.” Notice that the sailor’s head reaches the giant’s waiste.
