The Daily Graphic, New York, August 30, 1879, 13’ x 19,” matted and shrink-wrapped, fine. This political cartoon mocks the South who continues to honor the former CSA President Jefferson Davis. The Southerners, in the foreground, are cheering the unveiling of a Jefferson Davis Portrait. Davis is shown in bonnet and skirt, leaning on the “Lost Cause” sword with Andersonville and Libby prisons in the background. Davis is standing on the skulls and bodies of those who “Died to Save the Union.” Below the image is the caption, “OUR HERO.”
