In part, “... from the British vessels of war employed on the coast of Africa for supressing the slave trade ... ship Velos Passagena, 26 guns, 555 slaves captured ... San Jago de Cuba, 165 slaves ... Duke of Bordeaux with 561 slaves ... It is stated that the King of Loango had brought 100 slaves to the coast for sale, but finding no slaver on the coast, butchered them all in cold blood as he thought it too expensive to feed them. The bleached bones of the unfortunate victims were still to be seen on the shore ...”
