Autograph Letter Signed, 1p. quarto, Dorchester, February 3, 1777, addressed to Thomas Craft, Esq. Corl. of the Train of Artillery in Boston, and reads “ The petition of us the subscribers humbly shewith that wheras in Novbr. last Daniel Baird of Worcester Rcd orders for enlisting men under Capt. Todd. We reposing special trust & confidence in him that he would stay in the service until the time was expired that we nelisted for, otherwise we should not have enlisted & now we understand that he is discharged without either his application or knowledge or for what cause we know not. We pray therefore that your honor would be pleased to gratify us in our petition and Grant to each of us whose names are under written our discharge likewise...” With verso containing another most likely from Colonel Craft to Captain Todd, dateline Boston, February 3, 1777, and reads “Capt. Todd you are ordered to inform these men in your company who signed what they called a petition to me amounting near to the crime of mutiny their engagement were with this state not as they foolishly think with a sergeant you will therefore see that said sergeant goes from camp immediately & that the nine men be severely reprimanded ordered provided any thing of the like nature should take place in thefuture that the aggressors be immediately confined...” Followed by a list of names of men of the company.
