MILES, Nelson Appleton (1839-1925) was an American military general who served in the American Civil War, the American Indian Wars, and the Spanish–American War. From 1895 to 1903, he served as the last Commanding General of the United States Army before the office was abolished. Typed Letter Signed, “Nelson A. Miles” on stationery “Rochambeau” Washington DC, March 2, 1910, 1pp, VG. Miles is submitting to Mr. Perriton Maxwell, Managing Editor of the Cosmopolitan Magazine, “one of the copies of the signed contract and also the first chapter of the Memoirs”. ... He closes, “Please send the check to my address, The Rochambeau..” ... plus, A 1” diameter photographic pinback of Miles in uniform.
