Union soldier letter written by Alvan A. Evans who mustered into "I" Co. MA 8th Infantry, 4/30/1861 and was commissioned into "2nd" Co. MA SharpShooters as 2nd Lieut. The single patriotic sheet has a large, and rarely scene, battle scene of the Mexican War. Also comes with original cover with graphic "Jeff Davis Passport". The letter is datelined Camp Andrew Baltimore, July, Tuesday 16th. In part, "We marched to Fort McHenry yesterday and were reviewed by General banks. It was a fatiguing march. What glorious stories we are getting in Western Virginia ...."
