Newspaper, a complete and original issue of the Charleston Daily Courier, September 12, 1861, 4 pp, disbound, VG. In the mast head is "Charleston S.C. CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA..." perhaps the only Confederate newspaper to state define the new country. Although there is minor war reporting, the 2nd page has nearly two dozen recruiting ads with about half being illustrated. The ads are for units such as "Charleston Ancient Artillery", "Charleston Light Dragoons", "Marion Artillery", "Emerald Light Infantry", "Moultrie Guards", "South Carolina Zouave Volunteers" ...
