Uncolored music sheet, 10" x 13", 6pp., disbound, titled "The Retreat from St. Jean D'Acre ", a descriptive march composed & dedicated to General Sir Charles Napier K. C. B. by Stephen Glover. London, c1842. The cover is of an Arabic horseman on horse with sabre looking backwards. The Battle of Acre (also known as the Fourth Battle of Acre) occurred on 3 November 1840. The Oriental Crisis of 1840 was an episode in the Egyptian-Ottoman War in the eastern Mediterranean, triggered by the rebellious Walie of Egypt and Sudan Muhammad Ali Pasha's aims to establish a personal empire in the Egypt Eyalet. General Sir Charles James Napier, GCB (1782- 1853) was an officer and veteran of the British Army's Peninsular and 1812 campaigns, and later a Major General of the Bombay Army, during which period he led the British military conquest of Sindh, before serving as the Governor of Sindh, and Commander-in-Chief in India.
