Manuscript Document Signed by two Overseers of the Poor, 1pp. quarto, May 21, 1813, and reads in part: “...We the Subscribers Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Oysterbay in Queens County on Nassau Island in the State of New York do hereby certify that in Pursuance of the Act of the Legislature of the State of New York in such case made and provided we have this day at the Request of Sameul Jones...examined a certain Negro Woman named Lyne or Liba but usually called Lizzie owned as a Slave by the said Samuel Jones; and that the same Slave appears to be under the age of fifty years and of sufficient ability to provide for herself. We therefore allow the said Slave to be free...” Fine condition.
