NICHOLSON, John (1757-1800)controller general of Pennsylvania who was impeached on a charge of diverting state funds in 1793. Although aquitted in 1794, he resigned all state positions. Autograph Letter Signed “J.W. Nicholson” 2pp., self covering to Sharp Delancy, March 22, 1790. In part, “John Pline you observe was wounded at Wyoming. This I take to be the cause he is not returned ... If you would just pay him it will be a great relief and the only way I believe as the laws stand in which he can be relieved.”
