c. 1850 19th Century, American School, Portrait of George Washington, Oil Painting on Canvas, After the historic original painting by Gilbert Stuart, Framed, Extremely Fine. This Portrait of George Washington measures 29" x 22.5" and is After Gilbert Stuart's historic original oil painting (the Landsdowne and Constable-Hamilton Portraits are both very similar, as seen on the one dollar bill). There is some faint expected crackelature. Not signed or dated. Oil on Canvas, laid down on a later masonite panel for support on display, housed in an early molded gold-gilt wood frame which has some outer edge wear. A handsome George Washington Painting. The frame is a good candidate for either repainting or reframing, as that improvement would enhance the Portrait's eye appeal. Ready as is for adding to your George Washington collection, portrayed the beginning of the Federal Period of American History. Overall, in excellent condition with no other defects worthy of mention.
