AVERY, John (1739-1806) was an American politician who served as the 1st Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth. Avery had served as Deputy Secretary of the Province of Massachusetts Bay under Samuel Adams. Avery defeated Adams at the polls to be the first Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth.Manuscript Document Signed boldly, Joseph Sibley, Capt. 2pp., 15- x 12-, January 15, 1778, dark ink, VG. A Pay Roll of Capt. Joseph Sibleys Company in Col. Danforth Keys Regiment for Bounty due from the Time of Each man Inlisting[sic] Until their service Ending; Excluding three Months Bounty they have Received. The manuscript form has columns, Mens name, When Inlisted, Time of Months, Service days, When discharged, Bounty paid, and Sum. It then continues with all this data for the 62 soldiers listed as members of the company.
