A great group of five (5) war-date manuscript Confederate signal messages that were intercepted by the Federals at Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia between June 14 through 17, 1864. During Sherman's Atlanta campaign, Northern signalmen broke the signal code being used by the Confederates at that time. Dumb to that fact, the Confederates continued to send military messages loaded with sensitive information on Union troop movements during the siege of Kennesaw Mountain prior to the final battle for Kennesaw Mountain that took place on June 25-27, 1864. The following lot of five telegrams were all intercepted by the North and transcribed on partly-printed "Signal Corps, U. S. A." forms and show the Southern army's main concern over the envelopment of their front, reading, in part: "[June 14, 12 p.m. to Hood]enemy moved east and west of R. R. Everything indicates an attack. No firing in Hood's front. P.[ollock] B. Lee A. I. G.[June 14, 9 p. m. to Johnson]the camp fires tonight show the entire front of enemy's linestheir position unchanged. (Signed) G. A. Henry. Recd. By W. C. Manger 1st Lt and A. S. O.
