War-date Union soldier letter pertaining to the 1862 Peninsular campaign, 2pp. quarto, Camp near Harrison's Landing, Virginia, July 21, 1862, and reads in part: "...the first day we left camp about 3 o'clock and double quicked over two miles to Mechanicsville where our first Brigade were already engaged. Our Regt arrived just in time to save a battery as the rebels were charging on it. But they were repulsed with fear...next morning rebel shells were flying thick over us until late at night...we fell back several miles and formed another line of battle...there our Col. had his horse shot under him and several men killed & wounded, we were relieved by another Regt..." Fine condition.
