Sailors Patriotic Folk Art Box Dated 1834

| Wonderful folk art hand-carved wooden military musician's box belonging to Benjamin P. Robinson, Jr. who served as a gunner aboard the Noble Eunice Anne as she patrolled the waters off of Rhode Island in 1842. In 1843, Robinson composed the "Marine Artillery Quickstep" and later served as leader of the 1st Rhode Island Light Infantry band. This 10" x 18-1/4" x 9" box originated from the descendents of Benjamin P. Robinson Jr. of Rhode Island and is ornately carved with many patriotic and military motifs. The box's sliding lid top is heavily adorned with cannons, and American flags while the front contains a nice cannon and flag camp scene, with "1776" beneath the cannon and in larger carved font "United We Stand. Divided We Fall" beneath which is "1834". One side has large scroll work autograph of Benjamin Robinson Jr. beneath which is a large cannon while on the opposite side are two cannon, with flags, "1776" and large deeply engraved "WASHINGTON". Still retaining its original green and a slight hint of red paint accenting the flags. The original key and lock are present and are in perfect working orderPLUS; a ca. 1834 2pp. folio, manuscript general store invoice issued to Benjamin Robinson by a certain Henry Soule of Providence, Rhode Island.
