War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by James B. Onderdonk, 1st New Jersey Light Artillery, 4pp. quarto, Camp Seven Pines, Virginia, June 8, 1862, and reads in part: "...We are all well excepting Cornelius he is quite sick. He was taken on Friday night and he has quite a heavy fever today. I have just been over to the tent & he asked me to write you a few lines to let you know that he was sick...I suppose you have heard of the battles of last week & we are now camped on the field where last Sunday's fight was & nearly the same spot where Sickles made the charge. I suppose you think you can imagine how it looks here but it is impossible. You can not guess. Some of the dead rebels are still unburied & some of them are just covered up on the top of the ground. Some have their feet sticking out & from their knees & some their tops of their heads but the Union are all buried & well cared for but the Rebels are so thick that it is impossible to care for them right & we ought not to bury any of them the way they acted. Oh I hear some more shooting today it is to the right of us where Gen. McClellans head quarters are. Here goes the man himself along the road. I tell you he looks fine. I wish you could see him. Oh here is some news from one of the cavalrymen, just come in, he says the right of the army is within three miles of Richmond..." Fine condition.
