War-date Union soldier’s Autograph Letter Signed by Marshal P. Woods, 9th New Hampshire Infantry, 6pp. octavo, Waterloo, Virginia, November 9, 1862, and reads in part: “...We expect to have a battle everday. We expected to long before this time. We have been in hearing of cannon a good many days and expeted to be with them but did not have to go....I have stood the march very well, it makes me lame in my feet but I get along as well as the rest of them. My boots are getting pretty bad and I cannot ge any that will fit me, most of the boys wear shoes which they draw from the Gov. but they cannot draw any boots. I cannot get a pair of shoes that is big enough for me. I do not know what I shall do for boots...I foudn the 36 Mass Regt last night and I also found Geo. Eames [Died of Disease in August 1863] and made myself acquainted with him. He was very glad to see me...” Fine condition.
