JACKSON, Nathaniel James (1818-1892) was an American machinist and soldier. He served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War, in which he was wounded three times, Gaines Mill, Crampton's Gap and the Battle of Bentonville. He was later brevetted major general and after the war Jackson operated a mine. War-date Union officer's Document Signed by Nathaniel Jackson as Colonel of the 5th Maine Cavalry, 1pp. oblong folio, December 31, 1861, being his pay voucher and including his two negro servants. Good condition.
