Union officer's Autograph Letter Signed by Milton T. Williamson, 72nd Ohio Infantry, 3pp. octavo, June 13, 1865,Cincinnati, Ohio, addressed to the daughter of General Ralph P. Buckland (1862-1930) who thwarted Nathan Bedford Forrest's assault on Memphis, with cover, it reads in part: "...After the receipt of yours of May 3rd I was very busy rounding up the Militia which was disbanded on the 8th by Genl. Washburn...Mrs. Campbell was ordered to give up the house where we had been living by Genl. Roberts and not being able to find another broke up housekeeping...I am entirely out of business just now and dont know what I shall venture in. I look a little towards Memphis, but prefer this place...I am truly glad that the cruel war is over and that the brave boys will soon be home. I have not heard from the Regiment since February when it passed down the river to Mobile. It being a veteran regiment will probably be kept in the field for a long time yet..." Fine condition.
