Printed subscription for the Jackson Monument, 2pp. folio, October 28, 1845, with raised stamp of the "Jackson Monument Committee" hand-addressed to the Postmaster of Reisterstown, Maryland, and states that a large meeting of the citizens of Washington "Resolved, That the American people be called upon to unite in erecting, at the seat of the Federal Government, a suitable monument to the memory of the Hero, Patriot, and Sage, whose recent loss the nation still deplores...A colossal equestrian statue, in imperishable bronze, presenting to the eyes of all future generations the Hero and Patriot as he lived..." Fine condition. In the center of the Lafayette Park is an equestrian statue of General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. Sculpted in 1853 by Clark Mill, it was the first statue of a person on horseback ever cast in the United States.
