I say they ought to be sent within the Rebel lines and compelled to stay ... I see Senator foote has returned but refuses to take the oath of allegiance. Such men ought to be made an example of in the hanging line. ... I think Old Abe might be a little more resolute. I suppose we will have to have patience. The amendment is favorable and colored men are admitted as Judges of the Supreme Court. ...”
