Vols., "Camp in the Woods," Dec. 13, 1864, In part: "…we was out on a raid and hant got back yet. We have bin gone six days. We was about a hundred and fifty miles there and back. I plaid out the first day…I got along as good as I could. I am up now and it is about two miles from our old camp. I can go it now, but if a man would offer me 200 dollars I wouldn't go it over. All the men the rebs caught they cut their throats The stragglers was a great many and the Johnies killed them as fast as they caught them…W. W. Black…". VG
