Fort Gibson, August 11, 1867, 4pp., VG. In part, “Things here change a little every week ... week before last there was 12 men .. left on account of being dissatisfied .. I give 410 per month and get tip top board ... I see a St. Louis paper once in awhile and see that you have no chlorea ... I am glad that the scourge has not visited you ... One man who came here as a painter but who was not one was discharged. He had near a thousand with him (so reported) and started to Ft. Smith overland. He was murdered near Falegerah 18 miles from here. A few nights ago a suspicious looking man was prowling about the Cavalry Camp and was shot. Civil law seems to be a dead letter almost ...”
