LEE, Henry (1756-1818) Major-General Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee III was an early American Patriot and politician. He served as the ninth Governor of Virginia and as the Virginia Representative to the United States Congress. Lee's service during the American Revolution as a cavalry officer in the Continental Army earned him the nickname by which he is best known, "Light-Horse Harry". He was the father of Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate armies in the American Civil War. Document Signed “Henry Lee” as Governor of Virginia, 15-1/4”x12-1/4” on vellum, July 1, 1793, being a land grant for 2,167 acres of Virginia land issued toWilliam Reynolds Assignee of James Hines. Fine condition. According to pension records,James Hines entered the War Spring 1776 by one George Escridge [probably George Eskridge] and served in the company commanded by Captain Edward Hull[Edwin Hull] of the 15th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel Ennis [James in his] – and afterwards by Colonel Posey [Thomas Posey] that he continued to serve in the said Corps, or in the service of the United States, in the Continental Army against the common enemy, until about the __ day of the summer 1783 when he was honorably discharged from service at Richmond in the state of Virginia; and that he was in service from 1776 to the end of the war in 1783 – and was in the battles of Cristeen [?]1, Brandywine [September 11, 1777], Monmouth [June 28, 1778] & the Siege of York [September-October 19, 1781],
