Civil War-period CDVs primarily of unidentified subjects related to the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA. Highlights include a CDVs of a young man and a woman with an elaborately braided hairstyle, possibly a couple, identified only by initials. “CPT. C.S.A. / J.P.R.” inked on mount of man’s card indicates that he was a Confederate captain, while the woman is loosely identified as “KLR. CSA. Wife.” Given their common last initial, these two could possibly be a married couple from Tennessee, the location of the photography studio credited on verso of the woman’s portrait. Lot completed by portraits of unidentified sitters credited to photographers including Boude & Miley, Lexington, VA; Bogardus, New York, NY; and Walter & Heuck’s Gallery, Cincinnati, OH.
