A great war-date Confederate civilian letter, 1p. 4to., with rare usage of a dual pair of Jeff Davis five-cent stamps manuscript postmarked "W.[hite] S.[ulphur] Springs, Va., April 8, 1863," written by L. Watts, White Sulphur Springs, [Va.], April 8, [63], to his brother Wilson Watts concerning Confederate Treasury bonds, in part: "…from a notice in the Rich. Whig I see Thomas Mathews of Lewisburg is also appointed agt. of the Confederate Treasury dept. to issue Confederate Bonds so that I shall not have to send my Conf. notes to you or to Christianburg to invest them : it will also be, only half the distance for you to go, to invest yours. If you could meet with a safe chance ever to send your notes…you might send them with a note to Mr. Mathews to issue the mat…in such sized bonds as you might desire and to lay them aside till you call for them…your aft. Bro. L. Watts." VG
