Autograph Letter, 4p. quarto, Natchez, June 5, 1853, with good slave content by Northern on business in the South. In part: “...I am more and more disgusted with the institution of slavery and there is little chance for it to cease...nothign short of a disolution of the Union and Civil War in this country can ever bring about the aboition of slavery...a just God will sooner or later send a fearful judgement on us as a nation or on the SOuth as the rotten portion of our nation...” He also complains that many of the wealthy residents are leaving for the north because of the heat “...leaving their plantations in charge of overseers who crack up the darkies to make cotton to get money that the master may have a plenty to spend at Saratoga and elsewhere - with all their prejudice they cannot help travelling north...” More.
