Autograph Letter Signed, “Scott Brown” 1p. octavo, March 9, 1861, Frankfort, Kentucky, Office of Adjutant General, addressed to Capt. John Davidson, and reads in part: “...I have to inform you that we have no tactics except a few copys of Hardee Tactics which are by the military law intended exclusively for the companys in the State Guard. The law which passed our legislature appropriating money to purchase tactics was lost by the law not passing with a quorium being present...” About VG. John L. Davidson was commissioned as major into the 26th Kentucky during the summer of 1861. He was killed in action at the Battle of Shilo in 1862.
