We were then tod by our Col. that he should try & take the Battery. Tehy came by us on the run receiving an oblique aim from the line of our muskets (which being loaded were not allowed to snap them) They then unlimbered in our rear Col. Hinks gave the order to ‘change front &c. which we did so quickly that the Battery had to change front to meet us, but we had them. We changed front so quickly that we charged upon them & had possesion before they had got their Rammers from the guns. They drew their sabres but the crowd of bayonets pinned them right up. An Officer made a feint at Upadel [?] one of Co. G who caught his sabre on his bayonet & wrenched it from his hand. The Officer says What! are you in earnest?!! he replied Oh no that he only wanted to show how he would do it. Another jumped upon the gun & waved his havelocked cap around his head with the cry of ‘The Gun is ours’....” More. VG.
