Two issues (plus bonus) of Harper’s Weekly from the RECONSTRUCTION era. Both in good shape, some pages loose at spin:. 8/15/1868: Front, THOMAS NAST illustrates the theme of “Reconstruction.” Inside art on the Labor Exchange in New York; Scenes from the Maryland Flood; upper and Lower Classes of NYC; The Village Depot; Hunting in Virginia; Zouaves in Competitive Drills.; 9/2/1876: Front illustration of “Summer in the Country.” Inside, full page by NAST depicts a black man on his knees pleading for liberty in the violent aftermath of the Civil War. Art/text on the residence of Gov. (R.B.) Hayes; Vertical centerspread by NAST on “A Belle Savage” (Centennial related).; There’s also a “stray” here, a bonus issue of Harper’s from August 17, 1861, with inside art depicting “Rebel Soldiers Bayonetting Federals at Bull-Run.”
