Union soldier's 2pp. letter, including original cover, written by William Sewell who enlisted on 5/3/1861 he mustered into "A" Co. ME 1st Infantry and was Mustered Out on 8/5/1861 at Portland, ME. Dateline; Hooker's Brigade, Camp Union, Bladensburg, October 7, 1861 to his father. In part, The regiment came back this morning with the secession flag that they captured flying. You never hear such rousing cheers as were given them by the other regiments. While I'm writing the 'Stars and Stripes' are flying from our liberty pole with the secesh flag under it.
